Snow View Eco-School Project

Introduction:

Snow View Eco-school project has been established on 2003 with a view

 to motivate the students of Nepal in looking after the natural world village.

 It aims in inspiring the students from the grass root level in knowing what

 is practical and what isn't with first aid, hygiene, water, paper, plastic, 

garbage management etc. It has been successfully managed by fifteen 

members from the students body. It organizes various campaigns on 

garbage management, sanitation, cleanliness, ecological conservation,

 and proper use of water and electricity in the school and their village.

 It also organizes competitions between various school members in their

 objectives through cultural dances and dramas with a view to inspire their

 parents and people to conserve and protect the nature and the only earth that we have.

OBJECTIVES OF ECO-SCHOOL PROJECT:

  1. Special inspiration for the students with a passion for looking after the global village.
  2. To know what is practical and what isn't with first Aid, hygiene, water, plastic, garbage, plants etc .
  3. To set up vegetable gardens, flower gardens, compost pits, management of compost pits for Bio-degradable and non-biodegradable substances.
  4. Organizing programs for uplifting proper sanitation in drinking water in the school and around the village.
  5. Encouraging children and villagers to pick up litters and the need to keep their surroundings clean.
  6. Organizing campaigns and workshops in schools and villages on protection of ecological environment.
  7. Implementing and arranging different musical and dance dramas between different schools, with a view of preserving national heritage, traditions and customs.
  8. Making the older students responsible in checking the electricity and water tank to make sure that everyone in the village is not wasting and using it properly.
  9. First hand leadership experience for the student.
  10. Drawing up eco codes and implementing its objectives to work effectively through organized management through different school's involvement.

Programs

  1. On 28th January 2004 with the assistance of Ms. Anna Skaldeman, our first volunteer teacher, we all the students and teachers of Snow View English Boarding School went all around Hemja village cleaning and picking up trash, reminding and inspiring the village people to keep our village clean.
  2. On 15th of February 2004  the student members of Snow View Eco- School Project conducted a cultural programs inviting parents and village community members with a view of preserving our cultural heritage and social welfare of our communities.
  3. On 10th February 2004 we worked on making vegetable gardens and flower gardens in the school with a notion to inspire all the students and people to live in a greener nation and to protect the only earth that we have.
  4. On 21st February the members also dug up a bio-degradable garbage pit (for leaves, papers, wood, etc.) and a non-biodegradable garbage pit (for plastic, iron, glass etc.) to teach and remind all the students and parents about ecological conservation.
  5. On 27th April 2004 with our second volunteer Ms. Daniella Kronvall all the students and teachers conducted cleanliness program in and around the school compound.
  6. On 28th May 2004 with Ms. Daniella Kronvall and some teachers we all went to cheek the water supply system at Jakrithan of Hemja village reminding village people about water sanitation and to save water.
  7. On 18th April 2004we established a small office with a view to extend and organize the programs in a more professional way. We also inspired other five more schools to work with us to implement our objectives all over Nepal with our Eco code as LET US JOIN HANDS TO SAVE THE EARTH THE ONLY EARTH THAT WE HAVE

FURTHER PLANS

  1. We plan to organize different competitions between schools with a view of social and ecological conservation.
  2. We would like to open an open public library for the students and parents regarding ecology, history, literature, science, fiction, non fiction, references etc.
  3. We aim to provide scholarship to those students who comes out to be the most hardworking and enthusiastic in our eco school project.
  4. Provide scholarship for the very poor but intelligent students ( selecting from the poorest of the poor families)
  5. Conduct yearly competition between various schools and present prizes and medals for the best students and the best schools.
  6. Present an award for the best enthusiastic parent / villager cooperating in our eco-school project.
  7. Conduct weekly once, social and ecological awareness conservation program like trash picking in and around the village, reminding our uneducated parents and villagers to make our village, clean and to live in a cleaner and greener nation.
  8. Weekly routine check of the use of electricity and water by the eco project students in and around their village reminding their parents and villagers about saving water and electricity and it's proper use.
  9. Conduct training programs for students and parents on how to combat with fire in case of emergencies and natural disasters and the ways of preventing it.
  10. Conduct training programs on orienteering and map reading for the students in order to make the children aware of the place where they live and how to find a location quickly in a new place.
  11. HELP US TO HELP YOU SAVE THE ONLY EARTH THAT WE HAVE

  12. We need monetary donations to conduct different ecological and social awareness programs, competitions, assistance between different schools and for awarding medals and prizes.
  13. We also need interested volunteers to work with us in assisting with more creative ideas regarding the ecological conservation, project implementation, research, teaching etc.
  14. Materially we need stationeries, pens, papers ,book, office materials, color pencils, files, chart papers, educational materials, parts of water taps, electric bulbs ,pipes (especially to repair the leaking water taps and to replace broken electric bulbs), gardening materials like spade, wheel barrow, ,land mower, hose, shears, wheel, secateurs, rake, fork, hoe, watering can, shovel, etc. we also need dustbins to be kept at various places of the village so that the villagers can throw the trash in there.
  15. We also need individual sponsors for awarding prizes for the most hardworking and enthusiastic student in the eco- project. ( The award will bear the name of the sponsor).
  16. We also want sponsors for special prize award medal for the Best school in ecological conservation and sanitation working under the eco- school project member. This competition will be judged by dignified personalities and the award will be once in a year.( The award will bear the name of the sponsor).
  17. We also want sponsors for 2nd and 3rd Best schools during competition. (The award will bear the name of the sponsors)
  18. We also want a sponsor to present a special award for the best enthusiastic parent and a villager in ecological conservation from our eco-project.
  19. We also want individual scholarship sponsors for the very poor students from the poorest of the poor families
